Despite wearing number 27 during the preseason before his rookie season, Bobby Orr would switch to number 4 for his debut on October 19th, 1966, and he would keep the number 4 for the entirety of his career. Orr would play 10 of his 12 career seasons with the Bruins, building his Hall of Fame legacy in Boston. Some of Orr’s most impressive records still stand today, mainly because the numbers that he put up just aren’t done by defensemen in today’s game. Amongst Orr’s most impressive records that still stand today are: highest points per game by a defensemen (1.39), most points in a season by a defensemen (139 in 1970-71), 1st defensemen to score 100 points in a season (1969-70), and the highest plus minus rating in a season (+124 in 1970-71). To this day Bobby Orr is known not only as the greatest defenseman to ever play the game but one of the greatest players the NHL has ever seen.
